This Jagannath Dashavatara palm leaf piece is a circular tala patra painting made for wall display. At the centre sits Lord Jagannath with his wide round eyes and raised stub arms, placed inside a ring that shows the ten avatars of Vishnu, each riding a mount or holding a weapon. This palm leaf art form comes from Odisha and is known for fine line work done with a stylus on dried palm leaf before colour is filled in by hand.
About the Jagannath Dashavatara Tala Patra
Our karigars draw each figure by hand on the palm leaf before adding colour. Here the base is painted a deep red, with the central circle done in brown tones and the Jagannath figure picked out in yellow, black, white and green. Each of the ten avatar panels around him is painted in a different set of colours, so the eye moves from one scene to the next around the circle. The outer border carries a fine triangle pattern and small floral motifs in the four red corners outside the main medallion. The frame is tied at the corners with red and white thread. This piece suits a wall in the puja room or a reading room wall where it can be seen up close. Wipe it with a dry soft cloth, away from direct sun and moisture.
Why choose this Jagannath Dashavatara piece
We pick palm leaf work where the line work is even and the colour fill stays within the drawn lines. Our karigars can also work on a custom size or a matching pair for this design. Message us if you want to ask about that before placing an order.
The Art of Handcrafted Heritage
Every piece offered at Janijatra is an original work of art, handcrafted by skilled artisans who carry forward Odisha's centuries-old traditions of Pattachitra and Tala Patra Chitra. Each stroke is made by hand, making every creation distinct, soulful, and impossible to replicate exactly.
Made Exclusively for You
The artwork displayed in the image is a one-of-a-kind handcrafted piece. As our creations are individually made, the exact piece shown may already be sold or may not be currently available. Should you place an order, a new piece will be specially handcrafted for you with the same care and detail.
Being entirely handmade, slight variations in colour, fine detailing, or finish may appear when compared to the original image. These subtle differences are not flaws — they are the signature of authentic, handcrafted art, and a mark of the human touch behind every piece.
Thoughtful Packaging & Safe Delivery
We understand that each artwork is precious. Every piece is carefully packed using protective materials to ensure it reaches you in pristine condition. Fragile creations are given special attention, with secure wrapping and reinforced packaging designed to safeguard the artwork throughout its journey to your doorstep.
Caring for Your Artwork
To preserve the beauty of your piece for years to come, a few simple steps go a long way. For paintings on cloth and palm leaf, keep your artwork away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture, as these may affect the natural colours over time. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth, and avoid using water or chemical cleaners. For traditional palm leaf (Tala Patra) works, store in a dry environment to maintain the integrity of the leaf.
Stone artworks are durable by nature and can be placed both indoors and outdoors, making them a beautiful addition to gardens, balconies, and open spaces as well as interior settings.
