This black stone hanuman statue shows Hanuman standing tall in dark grey-black stone, a large round halo carved behind his head and shoulders. His right hand is raised with the palm open and facing forward, while his left hand grips a gada resting on the ground. In tradition, Hanuman is remembered as the devoted servant of Ram, a figure of strength and steady loyalty.

The Look of This Large Hanuman Statue

The stone has a smooth, slightly worn finish that reads almost like polished slate. A tall pointed crown rises in carved tiers with fine patterns. A long beaded necklace hangs down the chest with a pendant at its centre, and carved bands circle the arms, wrists and ankles. The waist cloth is etched with patterns and ends in a hanging front flap. Look at the base: it is oval, with carved edge bands and a lotus-style lower rim, a detail many shoppers pass over. Standing 6 feet tall, the figure commands a hall, a temple corner or a garden path. Our karigars shape each piece by hand, chiselling the crown and jewellery first and finishing the surface by rubbing. Wipe it with a dry cloth now and then to keep the stone clean. Under a diya, the dark surface picks up a soft glow along the carved lines.
