This 4 feet shiva statue shows Lord Shiva in dark black stone, a cobra with a raised hood resting on his left shoulder just behind the head. He sits cross-legged with both hands resting open near the knees, eyes closed, face calm. In tradition, Shiva seated in stillness is Mahayogi, the lord of meditation, who stays untouched by the noise around him.
Shiva Murti, Carved in Polished Black Stone
Our karigars shape each Shiva murti by hand from a single block of black stone. They rough out the seated form first, then work the finer parts with small chisels: the tall coiled topknot with long locks falling over the shoulders, layered beaded necklaces, and a thick snake-like cord draped diagonally across the chest. Bead bracelets sit on both wrists and snake-shaped armbands circle the upper arms. A smooth polish brings out the deep black of the stone. Look at the rectangular base too, where a carved band of repeating symbols runs along the front, easy to miss from a distance. Standing 4 feet tall, the piece has real presence in a hall, a prayer room or a quiet corner of a garden. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth, and it keeps its shine. Under the glow of a diya, the polished surface catches soft highlights along the locks and beads.
Choosing This Shiva Murti
At Janijatra we select each piece for the calm of its pose and the care in its carving. If you need another height or a matching piece, our karigars will gladly make one to order. Write to us whenever a question comes to mind, and we will happily answer.
The Art of Handcrafted Heritage
Every piece offered at Janijatra is an original work of art, handcrafted by skilled artisans who carry forward Odisha's centuries-old traditions of Pattachitra and Tala Patra Chitra. Each stroke is made by hand, making every creation distinct, soulful, and impossible to replicate exactly.
Made Exclusively for You
The artwork displayed in the image is a one-of-a-kind handcrafted piece. As our creations are individually made, the exact piece shown may already be sold or may not be currently available. Should you place an order, a new piece will be specially handcrafted for you with the same care and detail.
Being entirely handmade, slight variations in colour, fine detailing, or finish may appear when compared to the original image. These subtle differences are not flaws — they are the signature of authentic, handcrafted art, and a mark of the human touch behind every piece.
Thoughtful Packaging & Safe Delivery
We understand that each artwork is precious. Every piece is carefully packed using protective materials to ensure it reaches you in pristine condition. Fragile creations are given special attention, with secure wrapping and reinforced packaging designed to safeguard the artwork throughout its journey to your doorstep.
Caring for Your Artwork
To preserve the beauty of your piece for years to come, a few simple steps go a long way. For paintings on cloth and palm leaf, keep your artwork away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture, as these may affect the natural colours over time. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth, and avoid using water or chemical cleaners. For traditional palm leaf (Tala Patra) works, store in a dry environment to maintain the integrity of the leaf.
Stone artworks are durable by nature and can be placed both indoors and outdoors, making them a beautiful addition to gardens, balconies, and open spaces as well as interior settings.
