This stone ganesh murti for home shows Lord Ganesh standing tall in pink-brown stone, with a raised trunk curled to one side and a tall ornate mukut on his head. Behind him rises a big round prabhavali with flame-shaped edges. His upper hands hold two staff-like objects with ornate tops, and his lower right hand holds a tiered cone-shaped piece. His lower left hand holds something small that we cannot name. Devotees know Ganesh as Vighnaharta, the remover of obstacles.

How We Make This Big Ganesh Murti

Our karigars carve this idol by hand from one kind of pink-brown stone and polish it smooth. Some patches of golden-brown colour show through in the stone. This big Ganesh idol stands 4 feet tall. Look at the very top of the prabhavali: a fan-shaped crest with a fierce face is carved there. Heavy malas and beaded jewellery cover his chest and belly. Two small standing figures sit in canopied niches on both sides of the base. Four small seated figures and two small animals are carved on the platform in front. Rows of small relief panels run along the stepped base. Wipe the stone with a soft dry cloth. Place it in a wide hall or a pooja room and light a diya in front. The polish catches the flame softly.
