This 6 feet god ganesha idol in sandstone draws the eye first with its tall tiered crown and the large patterned arch carved behind the head. Ganesha sits with one leg folded and the other knee raised, his trunk curling to the left. His lower right hand holds a small round sweet, the lower left is raised with the palm facing outward in the blessing gesture, and both upper hands are lifted. In tradition, Ganesha is known as the remover of obstacles and the one invoked at every new beginning.

Our karigars shape each piece by hand from a single warm reddish-brown stone, chiselling the crown tiers, the beaded necklaces and armbands, and a snake-like band across the belly. The matte surface is left natural and the base is carved with scrolling floral patterns. Look at the upper hands: they hold carved objects that are easy to overlook until you stand close. At six feet, the idol has the presence of a temple figure, and it suits a hall, a courtyard or a covered garden corner. Wipe it with a dry cloth now and then to keep the carving crisp. Under a diya, the reddish stone glows and the raised carving throws soft shadows.
