This hanuman stone statue black piece shows Hanuman in his five-faced form, a lion-like face at the front and four more fanned out at the sides, all under a large arched halo. He kneels with one knee bent to the ground and the other raised, his front right hand lifted with the palm facing forward in a mudra of blessing. A mace-like weapon rests in one upper left hand and a short blade in the lower right. In tradition, Panchmukhi Hanuman is known as a fierce protector.

Five-Faced Hanuman, Story in Stone

The five faces are the heart of this form. Each face looks a different way, and the lion face at the front is said to stand for courage. Many arms spread out on both sides, each wearing armbands and bracelets, while layered necklaces and a decorated waist belt fall across the chest. Look at the raised leg and you will see an anklet, a detail that is easy to miss from far away.

Carved Stroke by Stroke in Black Stone

Our karigars carve this idol by hand from black stone, then polish it until it shines like glass. Fine white-grey lines are cut into the cloth, belt and borders, so the patterns stand out against the dark surface. Nothing is moulded; every line is worked slowly with chisel and file. At 36 Inch, it sits well in a prayer room or beside an entrance. A soft dry cloth is enough to keep the shine, and under a diya the halo and borders catch the flame. It rests on a round, tiered black base.
