This pink stone reclining ganesh sits inside a carved shell shape, with the open top curving over him like a cover. He rests on one side, one leg bent and the other leg stretched out, his trunk curved towards a laddoo in his hand. His ears stand out wide on both sides of his face. In Indian homes, Ganesh is placed first at the start of a pooja, before any other idol.

Reclining Ganesh in a Shell

Our karigars cut this piece from pink stone and shape the shell and the figure by hand. The stone carries a soft pink tone with light grain lines across it. Look closely at the ribbed lines on the inside of the shell, carved one by one in rows. Ganesh wears a carved crown, a mala around his neck, and bands on his arms. This 3.5 inch size fits easily in your palm, so you can place it in a small temple niche without it feeling crowded. Dust the shell grooves gently with a dry brush, since dust can settle in the ribbed lines. Under a diya, the pink stone picks up a warm glow and the shell lines stand out more.

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth, and avoid using water or chemical cleaners. For traditional palm leaf (Tala Patra) works, store in a dry environment to maintain the integrity of the leaf.
