This stone ganesha idol black piece shows Ganesha seated beneath a pointed, arch-shaped backdrop carved with fine radiating lines, a tall domed crown rising above his elephant head. His raised right hand is open, palm facing forward, in the gesture of blessing, while his left hand holds a rounded, textured object that looks like a sweet or fruit. Devotees know Ganesha as the remover of obstacles, which is why his image is placed at doorways and at the start of new work.

Black Stone Ganesha, Look Closely at This

Four arms are carved, the two rear ones raised beside the head. Look at the right tusk: it is shorter than the left, as tradition shows him. A necklace, belly band, armlets and bangles are cut into the stone, and cloth folds drape over the stepped rectangular base. A small mouse sits at the bottom front of that base. Many people notice the mouse only after a few days.

How Our Karigars Make It

Our karigars carve this 18 inch idol by hand from black stone, then polish it until it shows a smooth, deep sheen with the fine carving still sharp. Wipe it with a dry soft cloth to keep it clean. On a shelf or a prayer table, and especially under the light of a diya, the polished surface catches the flame and the carved lines stand out.

At Janijatra we choose each piece by looking at its carving and finish ourselves. Our karigars can also make a custom size or a matching piece. Message us with any question.

The Art of Handcrafted Heritage

Every piece offered at Janijatra is an original work of art, handcrafted by skilled artisans who carry forward Odisha's centuries-old traditions of Pattachitra and Tala Patra Chitra. Each stroke is made by hand, making every creation distinct, soulful, and impossible to replicate exactly.

Made Exclusively for You

The artwork displayed in the image is a one-of-a-kind handcrafted piece. As our creations are individually made, the exact piece shown may already be sold or may not be currently available. Should you place an order, a new piece will be specially handcrafted for you with the same care and detail.

Being entirely handmade, slight variations in colour, fine detailing, or finish may appear when compared to the original image. These subtle differences are not flaws — they are the signature of authentic, handcrafted art, and a mark of the human touch behind every piece.

Thoughtful Packaging & Safe Delivery

We understand that each artwork is precious. Every piece is carefully packed using protective materials to ensure it reaches you in pristine condition. Fragile creations are given special attention, with secure wrapping and reinforced packaging designed to safeguard the artwork throughout its journey to your doorstep.

Caring for Your Artwork

To preserve the beauty of your piece for years to come, a few simple steps go a long way. For paintings on cloth and palm leaf, keep your artwork away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture, as these may affect the natural colours over time. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth, and avoid using water or chemical cleaners. For traditional palm leaf (Tala Patra) works, store in a dry environment to maintain the integrity of the leaf.

Stone artworks are durable by nature and can be placed both indoors and outdoors, making them a beautiful addition to gardens, balconies, and open spaces as well as interior settings.
