This shani dev black stone idol is seated cross-legged on an open lotus, with a peacock standing in front and a tall tiered crown rising above a large round halo. The upper right hand holds a trident, the upper left hand holds a pointed arrow-like object, and the lower left hand is raised with the palm facing outward. In tradition, Shani Dev is the lord of Saturn, known as the giver of justice who weighs each deed.

Shani Dev Idol, Seated on a Lotus Throne

Our karigars carve this Lord Shani murti by hand from black stone, shaping the figure first and then working on the finer parts with small chisels. The surface is polished smooth and dark, so it shines softly when light falls on it. Necklaces, armlets and bangles are carved along the body, and the petals of the lotus curve up behind the figure. The peacock fans out its carved feathers, and the oval stepped base has a feather or wave pattern around its side. Look closely at the calm, smiling face with raised eyebrows; many shoppers miss how gentle it looks next to the trident. The idol stands 2 feet tall, which suits a mandir shelf or a side table. Wipe it gently with a dry soft cloth to keep the polish clean. Under the glow of a diya, the dark stone looks deep and quiet.

Why We Chose This Murti

We choose each piece at Janijatra by checking the carving and the finish, and only then do we list it. Our karigars can also make a custom size or a matching piece if you ask. Message us with any question.

The Art of Handcrafted Heritage

Every piece offered at Janijatra is an original work of art, handcrafted by skilled artisans who carry forward Odisha's centuries-old traditions of Pattachitra and Tala Patra Chitra. Each stroke is made by hand, making every creation distinct, soulful, and impossible to replicate exactly.

Made Exclusively for You

The artwork displayed in the image is a one-of-a-kind handcrafted piece. As our creations are individually made, the exact piece shown may already be sold or may not be currently available. Should you place an order, a new piece will be specially handcrafted for you with the same care and detail.

Being entirely handmade, slight variations in colour, fine detailing, or finish may appear when compared to the original image. These subtle differences are not flaws — they are the signature of authentic, handcrafted art, and a mark of the human touch behind every piece.

Thoughtful Packaging & Safe Delivery

We understand that each artwork is precious. Every piece is carefully packed using protective materials to ensure it reaches you in pristine condition. Fragile creations are given special attention, with secure wrapping and reinforced packaging designed to safeguard the artwork throughout its journey to your doorstep.

Caring for Your Artwork

To preserve the beauty of your piece for years to come, a few simple steps go a long way. For paintings on cloth and palm leaf, keep your artwork away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture, as these may affect the natural colours over time. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth, and avoid using water or chemical cleaners. For traditional palm leaf (Tala Patra) works, store in a dry environment to maintain the integrity of the leaf.

Stone artworks are durable by nature and can be placed both indoors and outdoors, making them a beautiful addition to gardens, balconies, and open spaces as well as interior settings.
